Yesterday members of the Jamaica Defense Force (JDF) and the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) were called in following the discovery of a tunnel leading from the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre in Kingston to a nearby church.
There was an immediate lockdown of the facility, a thorough roll call was taken and all prisoners were accounted for.
A major investigation is now underway by the Jamaican Government to figure out who is responsible for the tunnel and how long it has been there.
Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre is supposed to be a maximum security facility and is the home of top flight deejay, Vybz Kartel, who is serving a life sentence. Even though he is behind bars, Kartel has continued to rule the dancehall with new music, sometimes releasing songs on a weekly basis.
This new discovery has led many fans of dancehall reggae to wonder if this is the tunnel that the Gaza don was exploiting in order to record his music.
One fan asked the following question on social media, “So a di CHURCH FARTEL PRISON STUDIO INNA?”
18 Karat Reggae reached out to the facility but was told that they cannot speak on the matter as a major investigation was ongoing.
Whether there is a studio in the church to where the tunnel leads or if the church was just a pick up point from where Kartel would be taken to the studio, it is unknown at this time.
Vybz Kartel is currently serving a life sentence for murder along with current dancehall artiste Ninja Man. Munga Honorebel is also awaiting trial for murder; his trial begins next week Wednesday.
Stay tuned to 18 Karat Reggae as this story about the tunnel at Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre develops.
