Rancehall artiste, Munga Honorebel, is also known as the gangsta Ras but to Jamaican police and prosecutors, the entertainer is more gangsta than Rasta.  The deejay is currently charged for murder and his court case is set to begin next Wednesday.

If found guilty, Munga will be joining fellow dancehall artistes, Vybz Kartel and Ninjaman in prison.  Both Kartel and Ninja are serving life sentences for murder.

Christopher Townsend, the attorney for Munga said the dancehall act is scheduled to appear in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court in Kingston next Wednesday.

We will be looking at the fine and the judge will determine if there is sufficient evidence to see if the matter will be sent to the Supreme Court,” he told 18 Karat Reggae.

Munga Honorebel, given name Damian Rhoden, is charged with the murder of artiste Cleveland Smith, who was shot dead at 315 Molynes Road, Kingston 20, about 1:00 am on February 12, 2017.

Townsend expressed his client’s innocence and said the deejay is still pursuing his passion.

“He has been doing music, his first love, and has been putting out quite a few singles. He does shows from time to time and makes appearances, so life goes on,” said Townsend.

According to police reports, Smith left his Moonlight Drive address on his green Rambo pedal cycle to attend a session. It is alleged that he was accosted by a group of men, one of whom was armed with a gun. Smith was shot after an altercation ensued between the men and himself. He was pronounced dead after he was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital.

Munga Honorebel was granted bail on June 23, 2017, in the sum of $500,000 after appearing at the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court in Half-Way-Tree.

Munga is known for hit songs like Flipping Rhymes, Bad from mi born and The Prayer.
