When Vybz Kartel was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison it seemed inconceivable at the time that the former would boss could actually be released before Buju Banton who is serving a 10-year sentence on drug charges.
That scenario is now highly possible as according to Kartel’s attorney, Valerie Neita Robertson, they are pretty confident the deejay will be released in early 2018 as justice was not served in the original trial.
“We don’t want to brag, we are working assiduously on the appeal, and we are being very detailed in what we argue before the court to substantiate our claim that Kartel didn’t get a fair trial,” she told 18 Karat Reggae
The attorney also denied the claim that Vybz Kartel was short on money for court costs and Alkaline had to step in on help. Instead she said the delay in appeal process was based solely on logistics and management.
“The appeal is progressing pretty well, we have seen some delays, but don’t worry about that, that is on the management and administrative side, but other than that, things are progressing well. We have certain things to do within a prescribed time and it will be done,” she said.
Vybz Kartel’s appeal case will be heard on February 19th of 2018.
