Damian Marley reigns supreme over his fellow dancehall and reggae artistes as the young gong took home the Music Of Black Origin (MOBO) Award. Among the nominees with Junior Gong were Popcaan, Alkaline, Aidonia and Chronixx.
The feeling among reggae fans were that Chonixx would have won the award since he was the most talented in the field and released the most outstanding reggae project in 2017 with his Chronology album. However, as the saying goes; if a Marley is in it, a Marley will win it.
Damian is not completely undeserving of the award as he released his very solid Stony Hill album in 2017.
Popcaan who had won the two prior awards did not have the same fate this year. Despite numerous hit songs, Popcaan did not release an album for 2017.
Alkaline who is now considered the new world boss, taking that title away from Vybz Kartel, aslo had a great year but did not walk away with the trophy.
The final nominee, Aidonia, the man who Bounty Killer refers to as being a better lyricist that Vybz Kartel also had a good year but not good enough to take home the award.
Chronixx and Damian Marley will face off again in 2018 as they are both Grammy nominees for the best reggae album of 2017.
