The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) says a fire broke out at a section of Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre today. This is the facility that house dancehall’s most popular entertainer, Vybz Kartel.

In a subsequent release, the Ministry of National Security stated that despite internet rumors, Vybz Kartel nor any of the other inmates were not injured in the blaze.

Despite reports of allegations that an inmate started the fire, the ministry said the cause of the fire has not yet been determined and an estimate of loss has not been calculated.

The Jamaica Fire Brigade Services is investigating the matter.

Meanwhile, the DCS has commended the Rollington Town Fire Station for the quick response, and the staff at the institution for their vigilance.

Vybz Kartel is serving a life sentence on a murder conviction.
