On November 1st, there will be a big celebration for the 40th anniversary since the release of Bob’s Marley Exodus album. However, if you are Jamaican and your last name is not Marley, don’t even think of performing at this event which is being put on by Ziggy Marley.
The roster of artists has been released for the concert which will be held at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles. If you are a real reggae fan, you will not recognize half the names that are slated to perform.
The line-up features Ziggy Marley, Stephen Marley, Tom Morello, Gary Clark Jr, Jim James, Citizen Cope, Aloe Blacc, Cyril Neville and Terence Higgins.
Ziggy Marley might have purposely excluded Jamaican artistes from his event as many Jamaican artistes have spoken out about Ziggy being awarded numerous Grammy awards that he did not deserve.
18 Karat Reggae even accused Ziggy of pulling stunts that were aimed at stifling other reggae artists and kill reggae music.
Ziggy Marley reached out to Don Was to be the musical director for this tribute.
“After listening to Ziggy’s restatement of Exodus 40: The Movement Continues, the album struck me as something so powerful and rarely seen live in its entirety,” said Don Was in a statement. “I am thrilled to be a part of this show with Ziggy and Stephen, and perform these songs for the fans.”
“Bob Marley’s songs, and the songs of Exodus, are more important than ever. I can’t think of any better way to celebrate the 40th anniversary of this iconic album than alongside his family and these incredible musicians,” added Keith Wortman, founder and CEO of Blackbird Presents — producers of the event.
Marley recorded Exodus in London early in 1977 after an assassination attempt in his native Jamaica. Bob Marley & The Wailers’ ninth studio album was released on June 3, 1977 featuring such incredible songs as the title track, Jamming, Waiting In Vain, Three Little Birds and Natural Mystic.
All dem artists who r saying that ziggy doesn’t deserve all the awards he got r just full of envy ziggy is very creative he does all kinds of music so he has a audience so he sells more songs while most Jamaican artists only does reggae .his grandfather is a Jew why should he turn his back on his roots if those who r pointing finger had Jewish they would do the same its family never turn your back on family big up ziggy n steve

My grandfather is Jewish so does that mean I should support and accept the apartheid occupation against the indigenous people? Ziggy Marley’s music is WACK and as a reggae fan I find it cringeful that it’s always them that win when there is outstanding reggae music out there ie CHRONIXX it’s a travesty that he didn’t win. Ziggy is a disgrace & a sellout and not a RASTA his Father must be turning in his grave to see how he is carrying on supporting Israel.
